 Lesson Plan Process     My partner Aleksandra and I created a scavenger hunt following TEKS 3.9B; to identify and describe the flow of energy in a food chain; predict how changes in a food chain affect the ecosystem, such as the removal of frogs from a pound or bees from a field. With a scavenger hunt, we created a hero's journey story following the plot of a hawk and how the removal of its prey affected himself and other characters around him. Using adobe sparks we were able to create a story structure that includes a setting, characters, problem, resolution, and plot. After reading the story students will gain a better understanding of food chains. In the story there is a problem, the hawk needs to save the ecosystem with help from the students. Following the clues (QR codes) students will connect the flow of a food chain using the Leo AR app. With the app, they can create their own virtual ecosystem, similar to the story, and share it with us or others about what the...

Failed Attempt: My partner and I planned to teach fractions using pizza slices and toppings. For this lesson, students would build fractions by decorating an embroidered cheese pizza with toppings and compare fractions using inequalities. My partner and I would give each student and different fraction and from there they must construct it and then compare them using <,=,>.  For o ur  pizza fraction  activity, several problems with the embroider machine occurred, ultimately leading us to throw away the entire idea and start all over. After three full days of trying to get the embroidery machine to work, it never did. The bobbin and the thread kept messing up, not many staff members were well educated on the embroidery machine. 15 Minute Exploration: As I was exploring the open-source software on Maker Ed  I came across the Wolfram Programming Lab .  I was drawn to this specific source because it stated how I would be able to learn how to program and code. I explored many different types of games on wolfram but since I am still in the beginner stage I decided on a simple game. The game I played was Get Pictures of Things , with this game and several others it required no account and it's free of charge.  The game will provide you an example and a question. The first question is, Run the code to get a picture of a cow, try other common animals? It provides you with a "sample code" in this case it's a picture of a cow. Next what I did was try another animal. I clicked the "+" symbol and then clicked "free-form input." I am now able to put in a code, for my first animal I typed "a picture of a cat," and to enable the code you must press shift enter. Once you press...

DroneBlocks Simulator Experience September 13     Prior to working in the lab, we were asked to explore drone blocks and take notes. My partner Aleksandra and I were able to contribute all sorts of information to have with us during lab. (check out these notes in my previous blog post) September 15     Today in lab, we were able to use the drones now having some sort of background information. I partnered up with Aleksandra and together we were able to program a drone to fly and do tricks. At first, we followed the steps listed below to connect the drone. Due to some confusion concerning which app to use or what each blinking light meant it took a minute to connect our drone. Once our drone flashed a green light it meant that we were now connected.      With the help of drone blocks, we started off with a simple code to get things started. WeDo 2.0 Lego Activity Guide

The Objective for the icreate lab is to have students assemble and program a snail to glow and create sound using WeDo 2.0 programming Introduction:  As the educator, I would create a scenario like a storyline that would engage the students. For example, a baby snail has lost its family in the garden, help the baby snail find its way back home using signals and sound. Model: As a group, we start off by assembling the snail. Students can participate by gathering materials and building the snail using the step-by-step instructions. *Before building make sure to put batteries in the smarthub (body of the snail). Software:  Once the snail is assembled students are now ready to start programming. First, we start off by connecting the model to a device using the WeDo Lego education app (already pre-downloaded).
